Break time

I'm on my break at Topshop, Wispa bar and vile vending machine tea. Great!

It's been a really busy past few weeks at work. I've had a bit of a job change (and other things have happened) and I've been doing things on *gasp* week nights! So I've not had lot of time for life in general and I've been really uninspired. I hope from January this will change and I'll have a lot more time for my blog.

I haven't even seen anyone famous in Topshop for ages, apparents Jodie Marsh was in the other day though, wish I'd seen that!

Ill

Hi, I'm ill again. And I've been busy and stressed and tired and my computer is the slowest thing in the world.
Normal blogging will resume soon - I PROMISE! And if I break that promise then I will give you all a present....of, err, something nice...like a song that I will record and put on YouTube to say how sorry I am.
Ha, I will definitely blog now.

What I wore to a comedy night to laugh hard

Two weekends ago I took my boyfriend on a date to Clark's comedy night hosted by Dan Clark from BBC3's How Not To Live Your Life.
It was funny. I laughed. I had to take off my shoes because they had run out of seats and I wasn't about to stand in my heels all night.

Urgh, Kleio hair in my mouth.

Dress: Elizabeth Lau. Jacket: ASOS. Shoes: Topshop. Clutch: Abaco

We've found a new spot for photos - our minging hallway. But we can only do it at night when no one will walk in on us being idiots. And we have to whisper.

Come to the next Clark's! It's on the 7th November at the 100 Club again. Rich Fulcher (aka Bob Fossil from the Mighty Boosh) is one of the stand up acts!

Ghost Ride the Whip

There was a Ferrari parked in my car park and I got pretty excited about it. Mainly because it really cemented the fact that my car is the shittest and oldest in the car park. At least my 12 year old Peugeot 106 is bright red and more interesting than the boring black, navy and silver Audis and Mercedes! Right? ...right?

I own 59 pairs of shoes!

Chris has forced me to sort out the mountain of shoes at the bottom of our wardrobe and quite rightly - it's a hazard and I can never find the shoes I want when I'm getting ready in the morning (which, to me, is also a hazard).

By the way, these aren't even all of my shoes! The others are hiding in boxes.

I have counted the following:

7 pairs of Ankle Boots
3 pairs of Tall Boots
12 pairs of Flats
6 pairs of Courts
9 pairs of Sandals
11 (!) pairs of Sneakers (this is weird to me too)
8 pairs of Heels
2 pairs of Brogues
1 pair of Roller Skates

And, to my shame, this isn't even all of them. I think I have at least another 5 pairs of shoes at my mum and dad's house!

What I wore to pretend to be from the 70s

I really need to learn how to use my camera properly and get Chris to hold still ffs!
Once again, another work outfit - I'm lucky that I can wear whatever I want to work - but I've resurrected an old H&M dress that I bought when I was 18 and haven't really worn since. I'm happy to bring it back! It's really 70s groupie style and goes great with my ASOS leather biker jacket (that I've barely taken off all year - it's like a second skin) and lots of gold jewellery.

Simon Cowell, what are you doing?!

Thoroughly disappointed with Cowell's choices for the over 25s. Also very annoyed with Cheryl for choosing that strange looking blond boy and Louis for choosing those twin idiots.
Dannii was the only one who got it right!

I'm going to say it now: Miss Frank to win!

Take me back to Ghana

The new Cadburys advert makes me want to go back to Ghana so badly!

I'm part Nigerian so the West African in me wants to pull some ridiculous shapes every time I hear this song!
The first and only time I've been was when I was 12 years old - 10 years ago! I'm lucky to have family living all over the globe and my uncle and his family live in Ghana, running a fish farm. I know that Chris wants to go too so we're going to save for an excellent holiday next year.
I also have another uncle who lives with his family in Grenada - another holiday to save for. The best time to go is during carnival in August so it will be like Notting Hill carnival but proper with the correct weather and rum!

Elizabeth Lau

I bought a beautiful Elizabeth Lau dress from London Fashion Weekend where I was working at last weekend. People Tree had a stand there and it was a great success. It wasn't a great success for my bank account though as I bought this dress and a pair of Zoe and Morgan earrings which I've been wearing nearly everyday since I got them. I guess that means I'll get my moneys worth!

Sorry for the shocking photos - they don't do the dress any justice! I blame the photgrapher (Chris) and me not knowing how to work the camera properly.

Oh hai!

Hi blogheads, I'm back! Back from the clutches of the most intense month of work ever which I'm still reeling from (headaches galore up in here). But back nonetheless.
Here's what I wore to work the other day.

Yes, I've finally succumbed to the trend for wearing shorts with tights. I was against it then realized it looked pretty good so bloody did it. I'm wearing ancient jeans I cut into shorts, All Saints boots, Chris' t-shirt.

He got this from a car boot sale! It's amazing. Poor boy, I pinched it before he even got a chance to wear it. I've even been wearing his jeans and belts recently. He might as well accept that I own his wardrobe; I just consider it as the masculine third of the wardrobe. Yeah, that's right - he only gets a third. It should really be a quarter...I have a lot of clothes.
(my, those sentences were very short!)

X factor 2009

It's that time of year again folks! At the moment I'm just watching the auditions so there's not really much to say about it except for the new audition set up - in front of a live crowd with an optional backing track. I suppose it makes it a bit more fun but I miss the old set up! This one is far too much like Britain's Got Talent.

Once the bootcamp and live shows start my Saturday nights are going to be history...but nevermind! The nights are getting colder and I tend to hibernate during the cold months anyway.

So far I have no favourites, it's too hard to have any at this point and there is too much focus on the shit singers at the moment. Bring on the live shows!

Oh - I'm watching it now and I've just seen a girl wearing a People Tree top!

Scary

I took this picture and right after she attacked me. Look at the massive eyes, eyeing me up to swipe.

By the way, I am massively hungover. I need to stop getting wasted every weekend, it's not healthy!

Our special dinner guest!

Went to the pub for a delicious roast and some chill time after a hot drive from the countryside. The pub has two massive cats called Tony and Colin and one of them (I think it was Colin) came to beg for some beef, obviously he got a lot of mine!

Watching some X factor now and going to have an early night after a tequila fuelled weekend, it's been pretty mental!

I'm sleepy and hungry, what are you going to do about it?

The reason why my blogging has been so rubbish

It's because I have been cooped up in a warehouse all week! These are my glamorous surroundings. Working in fashion is all about glamour and not about dust or spiders running over your feet, don't you know?

Goodbye John!

In a mini tribute to John Hughes who passed away yesterday, I am re-posting my movie blog from the little I Love the 80s series I did a while ago. RIP John, we will miss you.

Originally posted on 1st March 2009:
This is the final part of my 80s mini series. I was going to do separate posts on fashion/style and film but to me they go hand in hand so I'm going to write about them together.

As you may know from reading this blog, most of my favourite films were made in the 1980s and most of these were by John Hughes, the legendary director of 80s teen movies. This post is about my favourite 80s movies which also happen to be John Hughes films; sorry to be obvious but never mind!!

Just last night I watched The Breakfast Club again to satisfy my mega John Bender obsession. I really wish he was a real person and not a character!
This is my fave clip in the whole film. I wish I was Molly Ringwald in that scene.

I first saw The Breakfast Club when I was 16 and apart from having a massive crush on John Bender (not Judd Nelson BTW; not quite the same appeal) I think I was taken in by the sharp dialogue at the beginning of the film and then by the whole story line itself. It also has something that I love in movies - it's succinct and has a very simple plot and story which means the limited cast and setting it all in the school in one day makes you always remember it in that context. It begins, the characters go on a journey, change a bit and then the day ends and so does the film. There could have been a possibility for a sequel but boy am I glad they didn't make one. It would have ruined all the thoughts that I had about the group when they returned to school on Monday. It gave me the power to control what happened to them.

There's not a lot to say about the fashion and style in this film except for Molly Ringwald's boots which are to die for. The characters really are stereotypes and their style reflects that. Oh, and I defy any girl to watch this film and not fall in love with John Bender.

My next favourite John Hughes film is Pretty in Pink, also starring Molly Ringwald. This is more about teen romance and the prejudices held between kids from poor and rich families. Basically, Ringwald is from a poor family and Andrew McCarthy is a 'richie' but they love each other, oh no! And what will their friends think, oh no! Anyway, as much as I love this film I also hate it because it's so obvious that Ringwald should go for her absolutely gorgeous and funny friend Duckie (John Cryer) who is already in love with her but instead she goes for the not so good looking and a bit pathetic Blane (McCarthy).
Here, look at Duckie in action and tell me you wouldn't fall into his arms and beg him to take you away from the big bad world!

Pretty in Pink is big on style. Ringwald's character makes her own prom dress because she can't afford one and the rest of the time, although she looks like she got stuck in a tornado in a charity shop, she does manage to pull off some interesting looks. Duckie, however, has incredible style. His rockabilly look has inspired so many boys today from their boot lace ties right down to their brothel creepers. And when you see him at the prom at the end, wow; Ringwald's horrendous pink prom thing doesn't even compare.

So I've saved the best till last and this is my all time favourite John Hughes movie - Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The gorgeous Matthew Broderick (does this man age?) is Ferris and one beautiful day he decides that he can't face going to school so convinces his friend to drive with him to Chicago for day, picking up his girlfriend on the way to play hooky in style. They also have to elude Principal Rooney who is looking for any excuse to expel Ferris, so Ferris sets up some elaborate door bell/voice playback system just in case the principal comes to his house whilst he is out. How many teenage boys did you know who were that smart? Yeah, none. But at least Ferris made it cool to be smart (and a little geeky) but also one of the most popular boys in school and that is proved by his relationship with Sloane Peterson, the school babe. Love it.

In this scene Ferris does a talk to camera thing which he does throughout the movie. This is one of the many reasons why I love this film.

This is another one of those wonderfully succinct films where the action happens in one day. A simple plot and story - a boy wants to take the day off school; how does he do it? And like The Breakfast Club it doesn't just end with everything rounded off but allows you to think about what might happen to these characters tomorrow.
This is my favourite part of the film. How handsome is Broderick here? Aren't you just so jealous of SJP?

Finally, I want to talk about Sloane Peterson, Ferris' girlfriend. Her style is impeccable and totally encompasses the whole Spring look that Topshop are going for at the moment.

I know this picture isn't very good but you can see the fringed white leather jacket and the high waisted loose-fitting shorts. In this picture you can see a bit more (doesn't this pic look like one of those 'get the look' couple pics!).
Just for the record Sloane busts out these amazing white leather cowboy boots and a cute little across the body bag. At one point she also has a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers (who didn't back then...) and her look is so perfect, so complete that she will always be my spring wardrobe inspiration. Go Sloane!

I'll leave you with this song which features on the soundtrack.
